Transition Wines - Summer to Fall.

Ahh, sweet September. Yes, it is still 80+ degrees. But if you’re like me, Fall decor is up, cinnamon candles are lit, & you are already pre-ordering your sweaters and boots for the chillier months to come. Here are my picks for the perfect transition wines that will give you those cozy vibes you are looking for, without forcing you to over-heat.

Chenin Blanc

Chenin Blanc is a white wine (hence the ‘blanc’) with high acidity and subtle sweetness. It is a French varietal wine and can be extremely dry but is also commonly aged in oak which gives it a slight “warm & cozy” vibe, if you will. Chenin Blanc is great for every season, but I love it most in the transition to Autumn. It offers some beautiful fruit flavors such as baked apple, pear, peach, and honey dew and mixed in is some buttery popcorn and graham cracker from it’s oak aging. Since Chenin Blanc is the perfect combo of sweet & sour, it is the perfect pairing with cheeses, vegetables, pork dishes, and asian cuisine. A versatile wine that is great for every season, but Fall is the best for a Chenin Blanc.

Pinot Noir

Obviously, if you have been following me for a while (@pourstyles), you know I have a serious love affair with Pinot Noir. A lightweight red wine with high red fruit flavors and a subtle earthiness, it is probably my favorite varietal ever. It truly is perfect for when the weather is still a bit humid, but your mood is 100% holiday vibes. Being on the lighter side, it won’t make you sweat like a Cab would in the heat. Sunshine, Pinot Noir, & Halloween decorations has pretty much been my life since September 1st.

Chardonnay

Ahh, Chardonnay. Buttery, sweet, full-bodied, you are perfect. Perfect for all seasons, but ESPECIALLY Fall & Winter. You can start with a white Burgundy which will give you a lighter taste if you’re not ready for the full blown toasty-ness of a true Chard. But if you’re like me, you’re ready for it. Chardonnay + some pumpkin scented candles and you are good to go!

What are your favorite wines for the September season? xox, Arielle.
