Deerfield Winery 2014 Sonoma Chardonnay.
One of my new favorite California Chardonnay’s was sent to me in the mail from Deerfield Winery. Here is my review!
This is a great example of a California Chardonnay with more of a butter/popcorn flavor profile rather than bread & toast. If butter, oak, and hints of toffee is your thing in a Chardonnay, you will adore this wine. On the nose I detect heavy buttercream, candied apricots, lemon peel, and green apple. Delish! The palate is even more complex with a beautiful blend of popcorn and hints of citrus. Subtle floral notes embody this Chardonnay perfectly with whispers of nectarine, butter, and lemon. I would consider this a medium plus acidity Chardonnay which I honestly love with how heavily buttery this wine comes off. Fruit flavors are also extremely prominent accentuating stone fruits with a healthy balance of dairy from new American oak.
As far as food pairings go with this wine, I was eating a cheesy quesadilla with it and it was perfection. I mean, seriously. I think this wine actually calls for oily or cheesy foods to cut the acid just a bit. If I was working as a Somm in a restaurant, I would highly recommend ordering this wine with a cheese plate, an olive oil and garlic pasta or pizza, a lemon chicken dish, or Mexican food. This would also make an exceptional dessert wine paired with a vanilla or fruit dessert.
Now, enough about taste. How cute is this label?!!! I am a sucker for minimal yet effective packaging and I would buy this over and over again simply for its packaging. Call me your typical millennial, but nowadays aesthetic is everything. Especially for social media, am I right?! Great job at keeping up with the trends, Deerfield.
I rate this wine a 10/10 as extremely drinkable in the summer or winter months, a perfect pairing for a rich meal, and completely Instagram-able. Thank you Deerfield winery for sending me this extraordinary bottle! I’m a huge fan.
